OUTING - WEDNESDAY 30 NOVEMBER TO EXETER CHRISTMAS MARKET

We welcomed two newcomers to our trip, Christine and Monica. Fifteen of us set off in the minibus for Exeter going the scenic route rather than the M5. The weather was very good, lots of sunshine and mild for the time of the year. However, we did encounter fog across the link road past South Molton to Tiverton. We reached Exeter about 11.45 am and our driver, Les, set us down right near the Cathedral with so many highly decorated Christmas stalls of gifts and eating places.

For some of us, it was the first time we had gone to the Cathedral and we spent time there having a good look around. The photo shows Christine and Marilyn admiring the roof. We were disappointed that the refectory was closed and we had to find somewhere else to have our lunch. Needless to say, Exeter was very busy in the shopping area as well as around the Christmas Market

We set off for home around 3 pm, arriving in Ilfracombe about 5.30 pm, having enjoyed the trip and the good company.

Our last trip of the year will be on Saturday 3 December when we pay our usual visit to South Molton for the Christmas Tree Festival in the parish church and their Christmas market.

Our trips in 2023 will start at the end of February and I would welcome suggestions of different places to go to. Unfortunately, since the pandemic, several favourite places closed down and haven't reopened.
